Mission Statement
Cove will respond to the needs of adults with developmental disabilities, autism, emotional disorders and other challenging behaviors to help them reach their greatest level of independence, productivity and integration. We will provide these specialized services within a caring, supportive and knowledgeable environment that allows for the greatest amount of growth individual dignity, personal choice and self-determination.
Referral Process
Referrals to the Cove Residential program are made through the Division of Developmental Disabilities in the state of Rhode Island. Once the person with disabilities is found eligible for services, the caseworker will contact the Cove Program and arrange for an on-site visit and interview. For eligibility verification for residential services, contact your caseworker or contact the Division of Developmental Disabilities at 401-462-3421. Out of state referrals should contact their local or state disability servicing agency.
Range of Services
The Cove Residential program offers a variety of residential accommodations for adults with disabilities in many communities throughout the state:
- Providence
- North Providence
- Johnston
- Glocester
- Chepachet
- North Smithfield
The range of residential options include:
- Group homes
- Apartments and rental homes
- Professional supported living arrangements
- Independent community living with intermittent supervision
All of our clientele are provided with a wide array of high quality services in the areas of relaxation and imagery therapy, stress management, daily living, communication, self-governance, vocational attainment, individual counseling, community integration, recreation and leisure. Selection of services is based on individual choice, interest and need.
Program Description
Group homes: Individuals that require a high level of support can live in small group settings for three individuals or larger group homes for up to six people. People who live in our group homes receive 24-hour supports.
Professional Supported Living Arrangements (PSLA): In this type of arrangement, an individual with a disability lives with a family or a single person in their home.
Staffed apartments: People who live in apartment settings live with one other person and receive 24-hour supports
Rental homes: Individuals live alone or with someone else and receive 5 hours or less of staff supports per day.
Independent community living arrangements: A group of individuals who require less support and who are capable of living cooperatively with others share in the upkeep and maintenance of their home with minimal staff supervision
Program Highlights
Vacations: Our clients have the opportunity to take vacations to various locations throughout the year. Some of the vacations have included camping in Maine, hiking in New Hampshire, Six Flags in New Jersey, and Disney World in Florida, to name a few.
Dances: Several times per year, the Cove Residential Program sponsors a dance for all Cove Center clients, as well as clients from other agencies. A live band plays and refreshments are served.
Special Olympics: Many of our adult clients continue to enjoy participating in the Special Olympics, held twice per year; the northern Rhode Island games held at Bryant University, and the state games at the University of Rhode Island.
Movie Critiques: A group of residential clients has formed a movie critique club. The group gets together on a monthly basis to review the newest movie release. The movie critique is then published in the Groden Network’s Staff Newsletter.
